Food & Wine

In the office, popular topics of conversation usually revolve around new fantastic restaurants, a simple yummy recipe, or a great bottle of wine at a local spot. Ande La Monica believes that a fantastic meal can change the world in ways both great and good. Ali, our sister company, is a photography studio that shares our love. Here is a collection of savory snap shots, flavorful photos, and palate pleasing pics from the past year or so.
Bon appetito.

God (and Angel) is in the Details

Ande La Monica and team did a complete re-branding of Naula Workshop, formally A&N Design Corp. Naula is a fantastic furniture manufacturer based in Brooklyn. Angel Naula, who is the founder and creative director, began apprenticing at his family’s workshop in Ecuador at the age of six. After moving to New York, Angel carried on the integrity, craftsmanship, and mastery instilled by generations of furniture makers.

Naula’s work is quite unique. There is a beautiful simplicity to everything they make.” says Ande. “It’s amazing, high-end craftsmanship coupled with these luxurious little details. The pieces are very modern in design, but looking closely, you can find a little bit of nostalgia in each one. These are some of the qualities that make Naula unique, and the brand needed to reflect that. Keeping this in mind, we developed a visual identity for the website, catalogue, and marketing materials."

Titled Time Line, the film features the exhibition, the opening night celebration, and graphic montage highlighting the artist’s work. “It’s a fantastic little film.” Commented Ande. “Sheila’s work spans over 40 years. As well as creating some brilliant images of Uma Thurman, Tilda Swinton, David Lynch, Warren Beatty, and Kim Basinger, her studies of the Brooklyn Bridge are just… stunningly beautiful. It was a pleasure to work with the material.”

Champagne Supernova

Shortly after New Years, about the time when our hangovers are wearing off from a little bubbly, Design Within Reach and Veuve Clicquot host the annual Champagne Chair Contest. It has been running for a few years now and most of the heavyweights in the design and art community come out swinging.Contestants were invited to create an original miniature chair using only the foil, label, cage and cork from no more than two Champagne bottles. Our entry this year was a throwback to the Victorian era with a modern twist.
