Smart Art

Continuing a great relationship with Gagosian Gallery, Ande La Monica developed a series of invitations, each with it's own voice and each with a nod to the individual artist. Gagosian Gallery, with locations in New York, London, & Beverly Hills, represents work from some of the most influential artist in the game. With a talent roster whose names include Andy Warhol, Richard Serra, Jeff Koons, etc., this wasn't going to be an ordinary project.

The Gagosian wanted to host a dinner to announce that a few more of their talents were selected for the Venice Biennale (which is like the Academy Awards for fine artists.) For Franz West, we developed a smart invitation/announcement where we used an actual cotton dinner napkin, screen-printed, with the artist's hand written invitation. The napkin was folded "restaurant style" around a map and direction to the event.

The full size napkin opened up.

Many (very) small prototype were made to see if the idea would actually work.

For Tracey Emin we designed a classy and elegant letterpressed card on a beautifully textured wove stock. The color adds a subtle touch to the graceful typography.

Y.Z. Kami's announcement was all about the odd, but provocative details of his work. The edges, the texture, the brushwork… all the aspects that make his art unique.
